Nanjing Laoshan National Forest Park, Nanjing attraction
Introduction
Nanjing Laoshan National Forest Park lies on the north bank of Yangtze River, west of the Yangtze River Bridge. It is commonly known as the "green lungs of Nanjing and shining pearl of Jiangbei". Laoshan National Forest Park covers an area of 80 square km with 35 km long east to west and 15 km wide north to south. The covering of forestry in the national park reaches 85%, which makes the rolling mountains mor magnificent. There are about one hundred mountains with the average height 300 meters, among which the highest one can reach 442.1 meters.
In addition to the tree covered undulating hills plus various species of plant life unique to the locale, Lao Shan is also home to wolves, deer, foxes and over 200 other species of animals which each year make the area their breeding ground. Certainly the most convenient way to access Lao Shan is by car. However, bus #168 terminates at the base of the mountain a few hundred metres north of the Pearl Springs Resort. Buses #608, #610 and #611 from Hanzhong Men also stop at the park. From there one can enjoy a day's walking or biking around the mountain, but bring a packed lunch and plenty of water! Once on the mountain, there are no shops!
The National Forest Park is a famous scenery spot as well as an interesting entertainment place. The wonderful forest and the temples, tombs, springs spreading among the mountains make the park a combination of natural scenery and human landscape.
Activities
The Nanjing 2014 Road Cycling Route starts at the main entrance of the Park and travels pass Senlin Avenue, Chahu Road, Puhe Road and Yanshan Avenue before returning to the main entrance of the Park where the finish line is. The route is 23 kilometres in length. The venues for the Nanjing 2014 Mountain Bike Course are clustered around the main entrance to the Park. Facilities and amenities include timing and scoring equipment, spectator stands, podiums, equipment storage rooms, athletes’ break areas and administrative areas. Some of the venues are temporary constructions and will be recycled after the Games. The permanent constructions will be used to support international cycling events hosted in the Laoshan area in future.
