The 2017 Suzhou Shihu Water Sports Games is set to open in the Shihu Scenic Area in Jiangsu province on Aug 5, the Suzhou Sports Bureau announced on July 20.
With this year's theme of celebrating the National Fitness Day, the water sports games will launch 13 performance projects including motorboat, canoeing, powered parachute, windsurfing, and four racing competitions, namely, canoe racing, dragon boat racing, dragon boat tug-of-war, and caltrop-picking boat relay.
The Shihu Scenic Area boasts of beautiful landscapes and a natural river system. This combination, according to the sports bureau, will give participants and spectators the opportunity to not only enjoy Suzhou's pretty lakeside landscape but also experience passionate water sports.
The event is sponsored by the Suzhou Sports Bureau and Suzhou Sports Federation in collaboration with water sports clubs and related associations in Suzhou.
