Jinmen Gate, Suzhou
Jinmen Gate, also named Gold Gate, located at the south of Changmen Gate. It was built in 1992, after the Nanxin Bridge to facilitate movement between Guanqian Street and the Changmen shopping district.
In 1923, when Lu Yongxiang and Qi Xieyuan fighted with each other, the gentry thought that it was not good to open the Jinmen Gate andmore and walled it ogg with bricks. Thus, the new Changmen Gate was put 60 meters to the south of Jinmen Gate as a direct connection with Jingde Rd. While it seems more convenient, in fact, people had to go round about, across the Nanxin Bridge, before they could get out of town. Its position and height were not suitable so, in 1929, the city started rebuilding the Jinmen Gate, and finished in 1931.
Jinmen has three gateways in the Roman style, is a direct connection with the Nanxin Bridge, and, in a more curved way, with Jingde Rd.
